ICYA is a close-knit team who love and care for the people of the North End community. Our diverse team are both local and come from outside our neighbourhood.
Community Minister
ICYA’s Community Ministers focus on a ministry of presence and intentional friendship, providing relationship-based support and spiritual care with people in the North End community. They communicate the gospel of Jesus through both words and actions as they come near and walk in relationship with people in the community, leading people to a meaningful and hope-filled understanding of the gospel and to restoration in relationships with God, self, others, and the community around them.
A Community Minister will adapt their support and programming to the needs of the North End community and will collaborate with the other programs of ICYA in supporting individuals and families in the community. A philosophy of development and not relief should guide the Community Ministry team, while also meeting the “felt needs” in the community.
Ministry Responsibilities
Outreach for the purpose of seeking and building relationships with people in the community.
Tangible care, advocacy and support with individuals that demonstrates the love of Christ. (i.e. advocacy in legal issues, recreational connections, counsel in relational difficulties etc.)
Intentional mentorship with individuals and/or small groups in the community for the purpose of evangelism, spiritual care and discipleship.
Create and lead small groups or other programming for fellowship and growth relevant to the needs of community members (eg. Bible study, Alpha, Recovery, etc.)
Use a holistic approach that holds in balance the meeting of practical and social needs, providing spiritual care, and sharing of the message of Jesus.
Equip, encourage, and empower local leaders.
Work in collaboration with the Community Ministry team and with other ICYA programs.
Participate in staff meetings, training and other events and activities that require staff involvement (such as the Community Block Party, Gala, etc.)
Tracking progress and providing updates on ministry goals and activities.
Tracking interactions and group events using ICYA tracking systems (Dex).
Flexibility is essential, as this role may require adapting to new tasks and responsibilities beyond the standard responsibilities.
Family Support Position Responsibilities:
Focus on building relationships and supporting families who are connected to existing ICYA programming. These families will comprise the primary caseload for the Community Minister in the family support role.
Create programming that engages these families, building community and spiritual support.
Qualifications
A deep and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, Christlike character and commitment to living out a Christ-centered life in alignment with ICYA’s mission and core values.
A high school diploma and completed or partial post-secondary education, or relevant education and experience.
Proven ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, and colleagues, demonstrating the love and compassion of Christ.
Experience working as part of a team, especially in ministry or non-profit settings, and the ability to work collaboratively.
Understanding of Indigenous culture as well as colonization and its generational impacts, with sensitivity to how the gospel brings reconciliation and healing.
Experience working with youth and families and/or other ministry experience; experience serving in the inner city or marginalized communities.
A Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Gem Lake Camp Liason
The Gem Lake Camp Liaison is responsible for overseeing aspects of camper coordination and needs of the camp while providing spiritual mentorship across two of Inner City Youth Alive’s core ministries: Gem Lake Wilderness Camp and The Bridge Drop-In. This unique dual-role position exists to foster meaningful mentoring relationships with local children and youth, especially those attending Gem Lake, through consistent connection, discipleship, and camp engagement. The liaison helps bridge these two programs by walking alongside youth throughout the year, both at camp and in the community, while supporting the needs of Gem Lake Wilderness Camp.
Key Responsibilities:
Gem Lake Camp Responsibilities (Approx. 50–70% depending on season)
Coordinate and complete camper registration for both winter and summer Gem Lake sessions.
Connect with campers and their families in the weeks leading up to their camp trip.
Transport campers, luggage, and supplies to and from camp using a Class 4 vehicle.
Purchase groceries and supplies for camp based on direction from the Gem Lake staff team.
Maintain the organization and inventory of camp food storage.
Prepare lunches for campers as needed.
Attend 1–2 weeks of summer camp and up to 5 winter weekends as required.
Perform basic vehicle maintenance checks to ensure safe travel (Ex. Tire pressure and changes).
Bridge Drop-In Responsibilities
Build and maintain meaningful connections with youth and children through participation in Drop-In programs, particularly focusing on campers from Gem Lake.
Attend and support Drop-In programming as directed, engaging youth in small group settings.
Assist in planning and delivering Bible lessons, crafts, and group activities.
Help create a safe, welcoming environment where youth feel valued and cared for.
Support volunteer engagement and facilitate positive interactions with youth.
Participate in Day Camp programs when Gem Lake duties allow.
Additional Responsibilities
Attend all-staff meetings, Bridge Team meetings, and in-city Gem Lake team meetings.
Collaborate with team members across both ministries, sharing resources and support.
Help plan and run community events, such as the annual BBQ and Christmas party.
Flexibility is essential, as this role may require adapting to new tasks and responsibilities beyond the standard responsibilities.
Be available for extended workdays, including evenings, weekends, and early mornings when camp or ministry demands increase.
Prepare and distribute quarterly ministry and prayer updates to friends and family, encouraging prayer, engagement, and support for ICYA’s work.
Support ICYA’s collaborative fundraising approach (Unity Fund) by participating in shared ministry fundraising efforts.

Engage Education Outreach Worker
The Community Education Outreach Worker plays a key role in mentoring youth and supporting their educational and personal development. This role is vital in connecting with youth, their families, and schools to support the educational and wholistic needs of students who may struggle with absenteeism. This individual will work to reduce absenteeism, mentor students to complete their K-12 education, and support the future planning of post-secondary education and/or employment. As a representative of ICYA's frontline ministry, the Community Education Outreach Worker is committed to integrating biblical principles into their work, building relationships that reflect Christ's love, and promoting reconciliation in the community.
Key Responsibilities
Provide Christ-centered mentoring to youth and their families struggling with absenteeism, encouraging spiritual, emotional, and academic growth.
Liaise with schools and other community agencies to provide support and individualized learning plans to students.
Deliver established program curriculum and modules while incorporating biblical values and teachings.
Guide youth through the progressive stages of the Engage Education program.
Collaborate and partner with organizations in the North End that may benefit youth and their families; connect participants to relevant resources.
Conduct research and collect data related to absenteeism as directed.
Enter and keep records of accurate data using the internal database.
Transport students in programming to and/or from school, creating opportunities for discipleship and relationship-building.

A Valid Class 5 Driver’s license with a satisfactory Driver Abstract. Willingness to obtain a Class 4 license.
