Kent Dueck (Executive Director)
Kent founded the ministry of ICYA in 1986. He is still relationally connected in the community while casting and communicating the vision for the ministry in consultation with the Board and staff. He is actively engaging the support constituency of donors and speaks to churches, schools, and the media about issues in our community. He completed his Masters in Leadership and Management at Briercrest Seminary.
Karen joined the ICYA team in September 2018. She has been involved in many aspects of ministry for over 25 years. Karen and her husband have worked primarily among Indigenous people across Canada. She is has a caring and compassionate heart for inner city kids and youth. Her desire is to see youth rise up and become strong leaders in their communities. In her free time Karen loves spending time with her family; her husband Howard, and two kids; Tobi and Joel.
Director of Programming
In September 2012 Dory joined the ICYA team as the Administrative Manager. Dory comes to us from working in the agricultural manufacturing industry for the past 16 years, bringing with him extensive office and staff management skills. Being new to the ministry, he is thoroughly enjoying getting to know the staff and the many facets of ICYA.
Jennifer joined the ICYA team in December 2015, as the Accountant. She brings to us 15 years of experience in Finance Administration for non-profits. She has a heart for the North End, loves serving others and brings much passion to her role here. This is her first opportunity to use her passion and experience in a ministry capacity and is enjoying getting to know the staff and many different ways ICYA ministers to the community.
Kristin joined the team in May 2014 after working as a Radio DJ for Ignite 107 and CHVN, where she fell in love with working for a ministry, being a light to others, and spreading God's love.
Kristin graduated from Mid-Ocean School of Media Arts in 2011. Her talents and skills are endless. She runs her church's sound board on Sunday and performs in various ways with their Worship Arts Ministry team. Music is an "instrumental" part of her life that is why she looks super happy when she is surrounded by it, especially when she drums. She loves getting to know new people and is excited to do exactly that at Inner City Youth Alive!

Andrew has joined the ICYA team as our Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator. He comes from a work background of international business, agricultural trade, and export development. The opportunity to join the ICYA team is very positive and exciting, as Andrew enjoys meeting new people, working on a team, and developing marketing strategies. He graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelors of Business Administration and Marketing.

Aleah is working as the Children's Outreach Coordinator for Kids Drop in and Pre-Teen drop-in. She sees the joy and delight that God takes in kids and wants to be a part of that. She thinks that children have a lot to teach us about love and adventure. In her free time Aleah enjoys bike riding, reading and listening to music.
Children’s Ministry Coordinator
Elliot began attending kids' drop-in when he was six years old. Since then he attended various programs with us including drop-ins, bible studies, and Gem Lake Wilderness Camp. As he grew up, he grew close with many leaders who led him toward Christ. Elliot volunteered at kids’ drop-in for three years, worked at Gem Lake for five summers and was a Bridge Team Assistant for nearly three years. He loves giving back to a place that his given him so much. The various roles he held grant perspective from different levels of ICYA, enabling him to encourage and support our volunteers and youth in his current role. Outside of ICYA, Elliot is pursuing his education degree in the integrated program at the University of Winnipeg.
Lori began as an ICYA Drop-in volunteer in 2002 and was hired as a Drop-In Coordinator in 2004. She then moved into the role of Teen's Outreach Coordinator which led to her current position as The Bridge Drop-in Director. The Bridge Team focuses on connecting with children, teens and young adults and their children.
Lori and her husband Dan had a daughter Finn in 2012 and love integrating their family with the families she works alongside. Lori is an avid kayaker and her family enjoys many outdoor adventures.
Emma's first ever experience with ICYA was when she volunteered with her junior youth group in 2007. This has grown into a heart and passion with working alongside kids and youth through camp programs. Emma is passionate about ministry and social justice. This passion has rooted itself since she was a teenager and into her professional studies. She recently graduated from Briercrest College and Seminary with an Associate of Arts degree in Biblical Studies. Emma's personality is an ENFP; Extraversion (E), Intuition (N), Feeling (F), Perception (P). This leads her to love travelling and in her spare time she enjoys reading classic literature, practicing and viewing art, and going on new adventures!
Tobi joined the Bridge Team in March 2019 with the intention of connecting with teens in the North End community. Tobi completed a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2016 and is currently completing a Master of Arts in Counselling through Providence Theological Seminary. Her passion for youth has led to work experience in various fields centered on youth leadership, care, and growth. Tobi’s life goals are to learn as much about God and the Bible as possible, help youth discover their passion and purpose, and drink all the coffee.
When Tobi is not here, you can find her with her family or studying at her favourite cubicle at the Providence library, jamming out to some folk music.
Vasili has joined the ICYA team as a Summer Bridge staff member. He has been involved with ICYA for the past couple years through volunteering and participating in our drop-in programs. Vasili loves ICYA's positive impact by keeping him away from bad influences, such as parties and drugs. He is currently enrolled at St. John’s high school; however he is transferring to Sturgeon Heights for the fall. His future educational aspirations include a university degree in either psychology or dentistry. In his spare time he enjoys just hanging out with friends or schooling them on the basketball court. Vasili’s favourite part of Winnipeg’s North End is Superboys as they serve “the best burgers.”
Ronald first got involved with ICYA when he began volunteering in 2016. He has lived in Winnipeg's North End for most of his life. Once he discovered ICYA, he was quite surprised by the work that ICYA did for his community. Through his time volunteering he discovered his passion for working with kids and youth. Ronald gives credit to God for opening and closing many doors on his journey to ICYA. Ronald says, "that God has made my calling in life quite clear to me." When Ronald is not here at ICYA, he loves to spend time with friends and family. He also loves to learn new things and create new experiences, including hands-on learning or diving into a book. He especially loves learning about history and studying the Word of God.
Before joining the ICYA staff team in 2009, Andrew served for eight years as a church planter and pastor of North End Community Church. Andrew and his wife Amie have lived in the North End since 2001 and enjoy building friendships with their neighbours. They are still learning how to be an incarnational presence, communicating Jesus with their lives in the neighbourhood. Now, as a community minister, Andrew is building on the experience and friendships he's gained to continue providing relationship-based support and spiritual care with youth, adults and families in the community. Andrew's work also includes speaking and writing to help people in the wider church engage with inner city issues and God's heart for 'the least of these.'
Andrew has a Bachelor of Religious Studies from Steinbach Bible College and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg. Andrew enjoys friends, coffee, music (from Robert Johnson to Radiohead), the outdoors, books (from Dave Barry to Wendell Berry), and spending time with Amie and their three daughters.
Leadership Development Director / Community Minister
Harvey Rempel joined our staff in 2006 after returning to Winnipeg from Fresno, CA where he was working on an M.A. in Intercultural Mission. His role at ICYA involves two main areas of focus: 1) Serving as a community minister by nurturing relationships with young adults and their families, walking along side them and sharing Christ as they struggle to transition into a new season of their lives. 2) Building bridges and fostering mutual relationships between the larger church community and the inner city. "My hope is that both the suburban church and the urban poor will meet, recognize Christ in each other, and be forever transformed by the experience."
Harvey first met Rhonda while she was helping run Youth For Christ's drop in for at-risk teens in Elmwood and together they are now learning what it means to raise their family in the inner city of Winnipeg's North End.
Jeremy got his first taste of the North End in 2004 and has been hooked ever since. The North End is his home. He loves visiting people in the North End, hearing their stories, hearing their hearts, seeing their strength and watching God move. Jeremy graduated from Canadian Mennonite University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Church Ministries. His hobbies include porch sitting, reading, basketball, and other stuff. Jeremy and his wife Teresa live in the neighborhood and love sharing hospitality with others.
Jessica interned at ICYA in 2012-2013 before being hired as summer staff. After 4 years of working on the Bridge staff team as the Teen's Outreach Coordinator she has switched over to the Community Ministry Team where she is walking alongside young women and their families. She graduated from Providence University College in 2013 with a B.A. in Youth Ministry.
In May 2009 Gord joined ICYA as the Wilderness Camp Director, leaving his job as general manager at Patzer Office Equipment. Before formally joining ICYA, he and his family volunteered several weeks each summer for seven years as the host family at Gem Lake Camp. Since 2007 Gord has also enjoyed volunteering at Inner City Motorsport program.
Gord and Beckie spent almost ten years with the Africa Inter Mennonite Mission, working as dorm parents for missionary kids in a remote village in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Gord says, "It is a blessing to have a position which allows us to minister together as a family."
Matthew joined our staff team as Camp Program Coordinator in spring 2011. For many years he has been volunteering at Children's Drop-in every Thursday night. Matt graduated from Steinbach Bible College with a B.A. in Youth Ministry.
Camp Program Coordinator
Matthew joined our team as a custodian in the winter of 2017. He first heard of ICYA when asked to join the clean and set-up crew at Gem Lake for their winter camp. Matt has been involved in ministering to children of all ages for over 15 years. He has volunteered his time at Salvation Army Weetamah Kids Clubs, Sunday School teach for grades 2/3, summer camps, and camps at his church. He is currently a Jr. High Youth Leader. Matt loves Jesus and life to its fullest and leaves profound impressions on everyone he meets.
