Cheryl Bear, 2008 Native American Music Awards Debut Artist of the Year, shared her testimony and sang about the Creator, family and her First Nations people, with help from her husband, Randy Barnetson, and their 3 teenage sons on the drum. Cheryl's strong riveting voice combined with the beat of the drum captured the audience to listen to her powerful words of reaching to our people and bring healing to our nation through our Saviour.

A short documentary of the North End, called Poverty by Design, created specifically for the evening by Chris Radtke, from Radtke Studios and Harvey Rempel, Community Minister from ICYA, was shown. The whole premise for the film is in part understanding our area by how history has shaped us, leading and contributing to some of the struggles and less opportunities faced today. The film opened many eyes and hearts.

The attendees got the rare opportunity to view art and read poems displayed in the Galleria, composed mainly by our youth in jail, expressing their hopes & dreams, obstacles, regrets, mistakes, abuse and the desire for people to understand them rather than be judged.

It was very clear they wanted to have a future like every other youth. Many were moved after reading the poems and stories. View our photo gallery below to read some of the youth's work.

Hope and a Future are Alive
It is sometimes hard to believe that something can be done to help create CHANGE in a place of despair. Yet, HOPE and a FUTURE are alive in the North End of Winnipeg, our neediest neighbourhood. Your support is an important part of the work we are doing to help our youth experience and respond to God's love. Special thank to all attendees, supporters, sponsors (see below), Michael Block from BlockStar Photography, Decorations by Rick and Lab Works for making this evening very memorable and successful, raising over $110,000 for ICYA.
