Salary Policy
Inner City Youth Alive workers are supported
in a number of ways.
What is staff support?
Staff support is simply donations made to ICYA from family, friends
and acquaintances of a particular staff member, which enables
ICYA to take care of the financial needs of our workers.
Who sets the salary?
The Board of Directors of ICYA sets the salary level of each staff
person based on the level of experience and on the level of responsibility.
What if there is a shortfall?
Staff receive their full salary only if adequate funds come in
designated to their support. A shortfall in support means only
a partial salary.
What if there is a surplus?
Staff are encouraged to maintain a surplus in their support accounts
equivalent to one month's salary. This provides staff with enough
time to write their supporters should they experience a shortfall
in donations during a given month. Any surplus remains designated
in its entirety to the staff member, but monthly remuneration
never exceeds the predetermined salary level set by the Board.
If staff have potential back pay due to a previous shortfall,
they are entitled to receive it if their account has reached a
surplus position.
Will my donation be designated to a particular staff person?
Our policy is that we credit the amount of the entire gift to
the support account of the designated staff person.
_____
What are the exceptions to these cases?
Case 1
Some special cases may be considered where a staff person comes
from a situation where he/she has no way of raising his/her own
support. In these cases, the individual must have some special
qualifications that meet the needs of the youth we work with.
Case 2
In the event that a staff member leaves the ministry of ICYA with
a surplus in his or her account, the surplus will be transferred
to a staff subsidy account to be used to assist staff experiencing
hardship as the result of a shortfall.
