Three hundred and sixty five supporters connect deeply with the issues that youth in Winnipeg’s North End are facing. The theme was on Choices – we all make them, but most of us don’t feel the weight of our decisions as heavily as youth living in poverty. We showed through pictures, words, art and dance that saying ‘no’ to street life is easier said than done.
Sylvia Kuzyk, Master of Ceremonies, talked about her connections to the North End; Shezza, a Manitoba aboriginal singer-songwriter, performed; Sara Thompson danced to her recorded story on bullying; Mathew Starr shared his life story and the impact that ICYA had on his life. The walk through the Galleria was so real to some guests that they had a hard time completing it. We were especially proud to present the Youth Excellence Awards to Anthony Maxwell and Chelsea McCallum. Congratulations!
We are grateful to all our sponsors and supporters, helping the event raise a record $141,260towards the operations of Inner City Youth Alive and the rebuilding of our drop-in center (damaged two years ago due to arson). Our goal is to raise another $461,000 before year-end in order to provide youth in the North End alternatives to gang involvement.
Thank you for allowing us to provide positive choices for youth – a place to be loved, a place to belong and a purpose for living.
The generous support of our sponsors helps us do wonderful work. Please view our sponsors below.
