This year’s event was held on October 2, 2009, and what a fabulous evening it turned out to be! We were honored to present volunteer achievement awards to 3 very special people who have gone beyond expectation. We are thankful for Darian Soldat, Derek Richard and Rosaline Rempel.
Don Amero, a singer/songwriter from Winnipeg’s North end, serenaded our crowd and shared some of his journey. In the last 3 years Don was nominated for 7 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Awards and his first single from his 2009 CD “Deepening” hit the #1 spot on the National Aboriginal Top 30! We expect to see great things from Don in the future and wish him much success in his ever unfolding, musical journey. Check him out at www.donameromusic.com.
Rob Wilson, now known as “Fresh I.E.” (Fresh In Eternity), was our key-note speaker and shared with us his heart on how God transformed his life and revealed to him his purpose. Fresh has achieved musical accolades and approval far beyond his wildest dreams. He’s grateful for those accolades because from them he feels he’s gaining the respect and authority he needs to teach others to reach for a higher purpose through his music. In 2003 he became the first ever Canadian hip-hop artist nominated for a Grammy Award (Red Letterz! www.freshmusic.ca)
Attendees were able to spend time in the galleria which held photos depicting loneliness and at the end of the room we had a live set of an apartment which included actress, Ashley Wiebe from Steinbach Bible College. Ashley played a part of a young girl who felt alone in the world with many burdens to bear. We had quite a few comments of how hard it was to watch her.
Your support is an important part of the work we are doing to help our youth experience and respond to God’s love.
We want to thank all those who attended, our supporters, sponsors (see below), Michael Block from BlockStar Photography, Decorations by Rick, The Lab Works and all that helped in little ways, for making this evening very memorable and successful, raising over $121,000 for ICYA.
